What is Buddhism?

Who was Siddhartha Gotama?
Siddhartha Gotama, also known as the Buddha, was the founder of Buddhism. He lived in the 6th century BCE and attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, becoming the “Awakened One.”
What are the Four Noble Truths?
The Four Noble Truths are the foundational teachings of Buddhism. They articulate the nature of suffering, its cause, the possibility of cessation, and the path leading to the end of suffering.
What is the Noble Eight Fold Path?
The Noble Eight Fold Path is the practical guide to living a life in accordance with Buddhist principles. It includes Right View, Right Intention, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and Right Concentration.
Do Buddhists worship a god?
Buddhism is non-theistic, meaning it does not involve the worship of a personal god. Instead, it focuses on personal development, ethical conduct, and the cultivation of wisdom.
What is meditation in Buddhism?
Meditation is a central practice in Buddhism. It involves developing mindfulness and concentration to gain insight and ultimately reach a state of mental clarity and inner peace.
Are there different schools of Buddhism?
Yes, there are various schools or traditions within Buddhism, such as Theravada, Mahayana, Vajrayana, Zen, Tibetan, and more. Each has its own interpretations and emphasis on certain aspects of Buddhist teachings.
What is Theravada Buddhism?
Theravada Buddhism, also known as the Southern School of Buddhism, is present throughout Thailand, Burma, Sri Lanka, Laos, and Cambodia. The Theravāda tradition is grounded in the discourses recorded in the Pāli Canon, the oldest Buddhist scriptures. Theravāda literally means “the Doctrine of the Elders” and is named so because of its scrupulous adherence to the original teachings and rules of monastic discipline expounded by the Buddha. How can I start practising Buddhism?

Are there Buddhist communities or centres I can join?

Not at all. Our activities are free and open to curious people of all backgrounds. If you would like to get more involved, there are lots of opportunities. Please feel free to reach out to one of us for more info.
Do I have to be Indonesian or Buddhist to join or participate?
No you don’t have to be Indonesian or Buddhist to join! We welcome anybody who are interested in the teachings and the practice.
